Books, Authors, and Plots, Oh, My!

I am a book-a-holic.  I didn’t read a lot as a young girl but I loved going to the library and walking up and down the rows of books looking at the titles.  My love of reading didn’t happen until after I read Janette Oke’s Love Comes Softly Series in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.  It has been a whirlwind of reading ever since.

Saturday morning I opened my e-mail to a newsletter from author Charles Martin with his response about the movie made from his book The Mountain Between Us.  The movie didn’t follow his book as well as it could have, but then ithas been mostly my experience that movies don’t usually follow the book.  The producers seem to take the story and add or subtract what they want.  He says it best, to read his response go to the following link.

I am very impressed with his books and how he strives to honor his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his books.  If you haven’t had a chance to read any of his books I would encourage you to do so.  He has a new book coming out in May of 2018 titled Send Down the Rain.  So far I have read 4 or 5 of his books and my goal is to read the rest of his books before the new one comes out which he says this next book is #13, so I have a few books to go to reach my goal.

Then, this past Saturday afternoon I was in for another treat as local Kansas author Kim Vogel Sawyer came to Faith and Life Bookstore for a book signing and book discussion of her latest book Bringing Maggie Home.  It was a delight to listen to her talk about the book and how the story of Hazel and Maggie came to be as well as how the writing process comes about for her.  I truly believe that God inspires Christian fiction writers with the stories that people need to read and glorify Him as well.  I would encourage you to add her to your reading list as well as I know you won’t be disappointed! Let’s not forget the Author of all authors and that is God himself who inspired the writers of the 66 books in our Bible through the Holy Spirit  to write His Story so that we can know Him and Jesus Christ and His redeeming work on the cross.
